Doctor Who 'Listen' Episode Review (no spoilers)

What's up Nerdlings!

Episode four has probably been the most creepy episode of series eight, but not the scariest Steven Moffat has ever written, and definitely not my favourite.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the episode, but some aspects of it were, to me, rather confusing at times, and I didn't fully understand how they went into the Doctor's past. It was all just too quick for me to fully grasp.
Nevertheless, the episode was still very good, the beginning was very tense, and gripping, and I immediately thought the monster was going to be the Silence until we saw the word LISTEN scrawled across the Doctor's chalkboard.
I found this episode to be very hooking. As soon as it started I was on the edge of my chair, desperate to find out what the monster was. The scene under the bed was terrifying, and the figure sitting on the bed with the quilt over it's head was scary, throughout that whole scene I just wanted to know what the monster was beneath.
I also really enjoyed how Clara and the Doctor both acted in this episode. Clara was very feisty, and reminded me very much of a former companion known as Donna Noble. She was very motherly when around Rupert, and I loved the scene when she placed the soldier figurines underneath his bed to guard him.
This episode also showed a different side to the Doctor's personality, and how unreliable, and cold he can be. And it really excited me. We haven't seen a dark side to the Doctor in a while, and I'm really electrified for him to be returning. And for the next episode of Doctor Who, which will be airing next Saturday at 7:30pm on the BBC. Don't miss it!

That's it on my episode review, I hope you enjoyed it, and if so, please follow us on Google+ and keep checking back for more tags, reviews and other such things. Also, check out our Twitter to find out when we'll be uploading.

Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins (no spoiler book review)

What's up, Nerdlings?

Today, I'm going to do be doing a book review on the third book in Stephanie Perkins romance series, Isla and the Happily Ever After. I hope you enjoy this book review. Anyway, shall we get started with the review?

Title: Isla and the Happily Ever After

Author: Stephanie Perkins

Genre: Young adult, contemporary romance

Pages: 339 pages (hardcover)

Publishing Details: August 14th 2014, Dutton

Favourite Quote: "The best part." He pulls me back into his arms. "The happily ever after."

Blurb: Hopeless romantic Isla has had a crush on brooding artist Josh since their first year at the School of America in Paris. And, after a chance encounter in Manhattan over the summer break, romance might be closer than Isla imagined. But as they begin their senior year in France, Isla and Josh are forced to face uncertainty about their futures, and the very real possibility of being apart.

Overall Rating: 4 stars out of 5

I picked up Stephanie Perkins most recent book for £6.99, and read it within days of buying, because I just couldn't seem to put it down.
Stephanie Perkins is definitely one of my favourite young adult romance authors, and her books are the ones I go to for a feel-good, uplifting read with a happy ending. (I started this after reading We Were Liars by E. Lockhart, and it was definitely a good choice.) And this book certainly didn't let me down.
However, this isn't my favourite of her books, and is last behind Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door. And, that was all down to the characters within the story.
I was expecting a quirky, likable character like Stephanie Perkins usually gives us but instead I got Isla Martin, who I started to hate half way through the book, She assumed things before she even knew what was going on, she was unfair on Kurt and Hattie when they'd done next-to-nothing wrong. She was whiny, irrational, and didn't explain her feelings properly. Generally unlikable.
In the end I came to find her somewhat okay again, but I could still feel the lingering distaste towards her. And, truthfully, I don't even know enough about her to care.
Another thing that ruined the story for me was how fast paced it was. Don't get me wrong, I loved the beginning, Isla sat in the cafe, and the romance practically starting from the word go, but something just doesn't ring right about it. I mean, would she really be up to going outside after being drugged up, and having her wisdom teeth pulled out. Something tells me she wouldn't.
Back to the pace of the story though. I found the actual romance unrealistic. The truth of love; you don't fall deeply in love in a month.
But, the book was redeemed slightly by the adorable ending. Josh and Isla, sat where it all began in Kismet...a beautiful way to end a story, if not a little cheesy. (I mean, naming the cafe after fate? Really Stephanie?)

I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a light, relatively happy romance with an uplifting ending. Although it does have weak characters, I still enjoyed the general idea of the story, and had butterflies during some chapters. Overall, not the best book, but not the worst.

I hope you enjoyed this little book review. Be sure to follow us on Google+ if you enjoy what we post, and keep checking back to this blog for more amazingly nerdy content. How well do you know YouTubers?

What's up Nerdlings?

Today I'm taking the "How well do you know the YouTubers?" quiz because, to be honest, I think I know waaaaay too much about most of the popular YouTubers, and if you're reading this, then you do too.

What is Jim Chapman's real name?
James is Jim's real name. I think I remember Alfie or someone vlogging about it.

In 2014 which YouTube pair became roommates?
Literally 100% sure that the answer to this is Joe and Caspar. #JASPAR4EVA

What type of videos does Zoella make?
Zoe makes pretty much every type of video but that's not in the options so beauty videos.

What is Marcus Butler's "inner beauty gurus" name?
Definitely Margaret, everybody's favourite YouTuber.

In September 2014 how many subscribers does Felix (pewdiepie) have?
I actually looked at this yesterday so I'm sure, 30,000,000. That's a whole lot of nerds.

Who did Alfie Deyes get matched with in his YouTuber boyfriend quiz?
Tyler Oakley because he told a story about how Tyler and he kissed.

What are Felix and Marzia's pets called?
They're pugs called Edgar and Pugar aka the best pug names. (Btw I should get triple fabulous points
because of the extra information)

What movie has Zoella been in?
Harry Potter. Has anyone else YouTubed that to find her?

That's the end of the quiz and blog post guys! I got stalker status. I'll leave the link to the quiz for you to take and comment telling us what you got. And remember, being a stalker isn't bad. It's smart.

Doctor Who Tag

What's up Nerdlings?

Today I'm going to be doing the Doctor Who Tag. I looked up the questions from this, and found lots of different versions, so I've taken questions from each of the tags, and mashed them together to make my very on Doctor Who Tag, as well as adding my on. Let's get started shall we?

1. When did you first become a fan of Doctor Who?
I first started watching the show when it was revamped in 2005.

2. New, Classic or both?
Honestly, I'll have to go with the new series' of Doctor Who. I've watched, and own the Classic episodes of the show, but I haven't seen enough to class my self as a Classic Girl.

3. Favourite Doctor?
David Tennant has to be my favourite Doctor, but Christopher Eccleston is a close second.

4. Favourite Companion?
Sarah-Jane Smith is the Queen of Doctor Who companions, and always will be, but I also really liked Rose Tyler and Donna Noble.

5. Favourite non-travelling companion?
Easily Wilfred Mott, imagine having a Gramps like him.

6. Favourite Quote?
I have so many, but if I had to choose one it'd probably be "One day I shall come back. Yes, I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go on forward in your beliefs, and prove to me I am not mistaken in mine."

7. Favourite episode?
It's always been The Girl in the Fireplace, but I also like Doomsday, The Angels Taken Manhattan, and Silence in the Library. Midnight was good as well.

8. Favourite monster?
Obviously I'm going to say the Daleks, but I also really love the Clockwork Men, and the Weeping Angels.

9. Least favourite Doctor?
I can't choose my least favourite doctor, that's not fair. If I had to choose I've probably go with John Hurt, or Paul McGann as they did the least episodes. But I still loved them both. You can't make me choose, this quiz is Satanic.

10. Least favourite Companion
Martha Jones. She was the worst companion of the revamped series, and was basically a rebound for the Doctor, after Rose. Martha was boring, and had no back-bone. Definitely the worst in every single way.

11. Least favourite Episode?
The Doctor's Daughter had a pretty weak plot with nothing we haven't already seen on the show. I didn't enjoy Love & Monsters either, the reason why you should never run contests to allow children to create monsters for Doctor Who.

12. Least favourite Monster?
The Slitheen and the Abzorbaloff, they're the worst monsters I've ever seen on Doctor Who.

13. The most heart warming moment, that makes you cry the most?
Either the ending of The Angels Take Manhattan or the scene on Badwolf Bay in Doomsday where the Doctor and Rose Tyler have on of their last conversations.

14. If you met the Doctor, would you go with him?
Without a second thought.

15. If you did go with him, which companion would you be most like?

I think I'd be like Clara Oswald, I'd be smart, and curious, but wouldn't be afraid to slap the Doctor across the face when he was being an idiot.

Well, that's it for the Doctor Who Tag. I hoped you enjoyed the mash up of questions, and remember to follow us on Google+, keep checking out our site for more nerdy content, and leave suggestions in the comments below on what you'd like us to do next time.

An Introduction

What's up Nerdlings!

And welcome to Nerds Unleashed, a website for us to share our unironic enthusiasm for television shows, books, films, and other such things.
But, before we delve into the dark unknown depths of fandoms, you should probably get to know us a little better:

1. We're both huge fangirls, and love most things nerdy.
2. Our YouTube obsession is getting out of control.
3. Without television, we would be incomplete.
4. We could not survive without internet, but probably could survive the apocalypse.
5. Tyler Oakley is our queen.
6. Some may consider us as weird.
7. We are both proud to be in: House Stark, The A Team and Ravenclaw,
8. Food if our life
9. At times we're both pretty sarcastic.
10. We are both insane.

We're planning on posting blogs entries two or three times a week, about a whole array of different topics, varying from tags, reviews, photography, drawings, possibly vlogs. And anything else we feel we want to do!
Hopefully, this has persuaded you to continue checking our blog out for new posts, maybe even following, if not bye. Maybe even suggest some tags for us to do, or some television shows for us to watch, perhaps just a nice comment, or even critiques for us to improve. Anyway, that's all for now.
